So apparently a brand new public transport system will be introduced to improve Dublin city’s network.
I hear people saying that the DART does not work as effectively as it should, that the LUAS should be getting somewhere by now; does this sound like a better idea than one rapid transport system, I mean is having 3 arrangements better that 1 good one?

Well supposedly there are three persons in the one god but that does’nt guarantee good effective quality either.

The three systems needn’t be mutually exclusive, but part of an integrated system: somthing like the DART connecting out-lying regions (less stops than at present) to an on-street system like the LUAS, slower but giving full coverage of the city. The Metro would give fast transit between the main entry points in the city centre (i.e., Connolly, Heusten) and popular destinations.
All this needs integrated ticketing & pref. open stations (will they trust us enough for that?) to make it work smoothly and be a pleasent experience (that is, lure people out of thier tin cans).

Is’nt the Metro primarily to deal with the city centre, the LUAS to deal with the suburbs into the city centre and the DART and ARROW services to deal with even further out locations into the city centre. By the way does’nt the redevelopment plan for Connolly Station which wiil include a terminus for the LUAS look really good. Overall, great plans but will we ever see the day when they are started let alone complete.

The metro plan is 15 years away.
I am an Architect involved with one of the stations, and its surrounding offices / carparking etc. I am have met Mr John Henry of the Transport Board, and I am still not convinced it is ever going to happen!
And yet we build…….. -

i live very near the tallaght luas line and some of you may be astonished to hear that work is well under way – particularly at the tallaght end, they are currently realigning water mains etc in the belgard area of tallaght and last week work commenced on the site of the tallaght line terminus at the red cow roundabout…who knows they might amaze us all and complete the thing on time! – i have received 3 large documents from the luas authority in 3 months updating residents on progress
