Talking about O’Connell Street and chainsaws, they should tackle all bus stops on O’Connell St with the same gusto as they did with the trees..
When the bus driver confronts you that it took him half an hour to get thru O’Connel st., it’s clear as day that on balance removing all bus stops would greatly speed up the city bus traffic where presently one lane is permently seized up. Us bus travellers would be much better catered for with redesigned stops at Westmoreland St and Parnel Square where there is plenty of space. Bus stops angled in to the footpath that allow busses to pull in and pull out easier.
The present situation with two lanes in which busses are continuously wriggling from lane to lane at 3 mph is a farce that can’t continue.
On an aside, I believe removing about 30% of all Dublin bus stops would be an imaginative leap foward in bus travel. I’d be happy to see the one closest to me dissapear considering the benefits to be had enroute on our competely over bus stopped network. It wouldn’t even require a confrontation with the Unions.
