Arent these the really poor Scott Tallon Walker flats… or Michael Scott Architects as they probably were then…..

      Bridgefoot Street Area Redevelopment Project

The Bridgefoot Street Area Project comprises of 143 Corporation flats at Bridgefoot Street, Bonham Street and Island Street, set out in five inter-connecting blocks.

The flats were built in 1964 and have now suffered from a number of defects. Major work is now being carried out to bring them up to modern standards of comfort, security and energy efficiency.

Local residents work closely with Dublin Corporation’s Project Team, led by Paul Russell, in planning and implementation of the Project.

The new proposals envisage the demolition of two of the five blocks running North/South and refurbishment both within and without the remaining three blocks. The flats will be enlarged and new duplex housing will be provided together with a variety of innovative urban passive and recreational open spaces .

Also this will invlove the re-instating of Bridgefort Street (which is now an aimless dual-carriageway) thus framing the view of the newly restored St. Catherine’s ‘Church’ from the quays……………super.

Dear auld Michael Scott, The darling of modern architecture……made some Bu-Bu’s too; look at our national theatre ‘the Abbey’ built in the 60’s…….Oh! woe is me…… featureless bare walls fronting a streetscape.

Does the scheme involve narowing the road? Or densification of the buildings – adding in blocks to the ends of the existing and building up to the road? Does anyone have any images?
