InactiveDoes anybody know of anyone who has ever done a project or thesis on the Blackrock Baths. I posted on this subject a few months ago looking for a set of drawings of the building, but have had no success, despite following up all leads.
I am doing an MArch in Conservation at Glasgow School of Art and although I have a wealth of information and history on the building, the drawings are still a major problem…..all help gratefully appreciated!!!

KeymasterDid you contact the Irish Architectural Archive?

InactiveYes, been there, some information on the various swimming galas held there, this led me on to the National Library Archives, and further but no drawings. The Council were like a brick wall trying to get information out of them. They let me see the general file on the Baths, but as for drawings, I don’t think they have the resources to get someone to search their archives, and they wouldn’t let me do it myself.

Keymasterhave you managed to track down the original architects? their firms files may be owned by another firm now and it may be possible to get drawings from their successors…

ParticipantI know of at least two students in DIT Bolton Street who have done an architectural thesis on this site in the past few years. There may well be more.
2001 – Emer O’Sullivan – design museum
2000 – Linda Sherlock –The thesis books for each of these can be accessed through the library in DIT, Bolton Street. They are, however limited to within the library and cannot be removed.

ParticipantTry searching paddi.net!
I know its clunky (twice this morning I have tried and go no response) but you may get some periodicals you have missed with information. The fact you cannot bookmark results is a particular pain. - December 11, 2001 at 4:56 pm #717750

InactiveThanks for the information folks, I will follow up the two leads re Bolton Street thesis. As for the original Architects, they were a firm based in London, after that the trail has gone cold. I found out that the original tender packs were available at Blackrock Library for interested contractors, and I know who carried out the construction work, but Blackrock librarys archives are agin within the domain of the impenetrable Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Archives!

InactiveYes, tried that too. The baths were initially built in 1885 by the Blackrock Promenade Pier and Baths Company. It was renovated in 1928 in time for the Tailtean Games by the then Blackrock Urban District Council and I would be really pleased to find original 1885 plans as well as the 1928 ones which reflect the pool as it is today.
