I heard off someone recently, that the Bank of Ireland building on Baggot street, by Scott Tallon Walker (the one that looks similar to Mies Van Der Rohe’s Seagram Building) was scheduled to be demolished, and an apartment block built on the site instead.
Has anyone here heard anything about this? I hope it’s not true. That building is probably the best building in Dublin from the 60’s or 70’s in my opinion.

AFAIK BoI just completed a sale and lease back arrangement for that building, so I can’t see it disappearing any time soon.

It’s not a Protected Structure (according to the DCC RPS) though it’s considered by many, like you, to be one of the finest 20th century buildings in the city. I like it as a building, but I’m not so sure on it’s relationship to its context.
