Does anybody out there know where I can get standard details for the positioning of an ATM machine,
What height does it have to be above floor level to be accessable to people in wheelchairs etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of them are not designed for wheelchair users it seems. I’ve been told from one disabled user that it’s “a bit of a fucking task”. Pitty really 🙁

Try the Metric Handbook – there’s basic dimensions in there.

I think that security takes place beofre user friendly, too low and it would be easy to see wats being pressed

Have a look at http://www.atmmarketplace.com which will supply you with the names of most of the major ATM manufacturers e.g NCR, Diebold, Fujitsu etc. and dimensions for many models – though, not as far as I can see, wheelchair access to same.

However, a query directed to the websites of these manufacturers regarding handicapped access should yield more specific information re potential configurations of their equipment which would suit, rather than asking same question of banks.

I’d be very surprised if this is a not a relatively standard consideration for ATM manufacturers, whether or not it is actually used by banks who deploy their equipment.

Lots of EDM machines are too low and I have to bend down to see the bloody screen 🙁

I’m quite tall and I would agree, some of the newer machines are almost unusable for me. I can’t see the screen and I have to hunch over to key in my pin.

They could also go a long way towards hiding the PIN pad from view. The majority of the machines, with the exception of PTSB which has a flap over it, seem to be almost designed to put your pin on view! The keypad is ridiculously easy to overlook.

I’ve really gone over to using my Laser card for almost everything thesedays. I rarely take out cash from an ATM usually just get cashback in the supermarket when I shop with Laser.
