      Art Fans , Art Buyers Take Note!

      New contemporary art gallery Stone Gallery recently opened on Pearse Street.

      Current Inaugural Group exhibition features the work of Caroline Byrne, Diana Caramaschi, Melissa Corish, Ciaran Crowley, Caroline Donohue, Stephen Gaughan, Claire Halpin, Catriona Hardie, Deirdre Hayden, Diane Henshaw, Sean Hillen, Ita Kelly, James Kenny, Lorraine Lawlor, Vanessa Marsh, Kate Murphy, Michael Moore, Siobhan O’Grady, Janet Pierce, Ben Readman, Padraic Reaney and Lee Welch.

      It looks like a decent exhibition space but one remark I would make on the website is that the address should be on the home page. It would also be good to see a picture of front of the building to see the context that the interior is placed.

      About the size of the gallery – it is a relatively small space – 35sqms. We have more work on the website than physically on the walls. If a person is interested in a particular piece of work that they see on the web that isn’t on the walls we fetch it for them to have a look at.

      We do however have an extended exhibition space which isn’t generally open to the public as it doubles up as boardroom for the Design company ‘Loman Cusack Design’ which is located upstairs. We bring people down to that space to view the work on appointment.

      Circa Magazine have an architectural supplement on spaces for art called ‘Space: Architecture for Art’ out at the moment which features a piece on us.

      the gallery is quite small but as a shop-front its one of the nicest things done in dublin in ages. realy nice boadr marked concrete. I asked inside who was the architect and they said it was a fellow by the name of Mark Ryan (hope i remembered that correctly) who was working for the frim who did it (can’t remember who they were) but has moved since. if all this is true well done mark and who ever it was you were working for!

      It was a company by the name of Chris Ryan Associates who designed the gallery. The 2 main architects were Murray Osborne and Ed Selby. I’m glad to see the gallery is being admired for its architectural merits.

      On the subject of Art if you head down to St. Stephens Green today artists are showing off their work. Very impresive and next outing is not till August.

      Roskav – Thanks for that much appreciated. The north side of Hyde Park has something similar except the art is truely crap tourist rubbish for the most part. A better London example if your interested is in Brixton (where I live): http://urbanartonline.co.uk/urbanart/ – cheers, Shane
