I agree entirely about the ‘suspicious’ fires – either the ‘insurance’ or the ‘developer’s’ fire, do. the ‘accidental’ demolition or the local authority equivalent, the ‘dangerous building’. They are all methods of getting rid of unwanted or inconvenient structures. Instead of fruitlessly punting the ‘Living Over the Shop’ initiative, why doesn’t DCC impose a tax on empty or underused upper floors or grant business-rate relief for occupied or redeveloped premises?
