Re: Re: dun laoghaire queries
Query 1 is the old Fire Brigade Station on Georges Place. It was built around 1896, and to me is one of the most interesting pieces in the town. Rumour is that the council are not too interested in keeping it. It is indicated in the latest plan as being suitable for development. It is presently in use as the Enterprise Centre. The whole area around it is presently undergoing complete change. The Environmental Yard site, which is across the road from it was recently sold off by the council and is presently at An Bord Pleanala, whilst the Iceland Site next door recently got full permission for what seems to be a worse piece of architecture than the shopping centre: (see attachment, from the Landmark building thread)
Query 2 is the George IV monument to commemorate his visit and the founding of Kingstown. It was bombed by the IRA at some stage (I think during the 1970s) and was missing one of its granite balls for years. Another attempt was made on it in 1993, but as you can see it is still there.
Query 3 is, as you say, the Harbour Commisioners House. Just beside that is where Harbour View is being built.
Also, I dont think that is the church on Park Road. I think it is the one on Northumberland Ave.
