From this morning’s Sunday Independent:

Cork deal for palace brothers

A BUCKINGHAM Palacehospitality director is set to be offered close to €1m for a 34-acre park donated to a Cork town for public use by one of his ancestors.

Mallow Town Council is now liaising with Cork County Council over a new, improved offer for a 34-acre town park after brothers Patrick and Michael Jephson rejected their opening €500,000 package.

Michael Jephson is the director of Royal hospitality at Buckingham Palace – and is on first name terms with Queen Elizabeth II.

Michael will divide any settlement received for Mallow Town Park with his brother, Patrick, who is a former personal aide to Princess Diana.

Both brothers live in London and were educated in Britain, but their family was once one of the leading landowners in the north Cork town of Mallow.

The revised council offer will be tabled early in the New Year, but council sources refused to confirm whether it will match the reported €1m asking price.
