Alas , if you look around the rear gardens of so many of our houses you will see examples of unreasonable neighbors behavior which results in rear extensions not fully extending to the shared boundary . This usually results in nasty two foot wide strips , litter traps no use to anyone , instead of valuable internal square footage . It is far better when neighbours agree to share a boundary wall and the first guy provides for the next guys possible extension . It is legally possible to force some one to alter construction if they over sail your property without permission . Pretty unpleasant prospect , few pursue it .
