Plans unveiled for ‘Titanic’ scheme
18 October 2005 14:43
Plans have been announced for the radical redevelopment of the shipyard area of Belfast where the ill-fated liner, the Titanic, was built.
The Titanic Quarter scheme will be the biggest property development ever undertaken in Northern Ireland.
It will cost £1bn and create 20,000 new jobs. The 185-acre site will have commercial, residential and educational aspects, with the aim of creating new dockside community in Belfast.
Stage one of the project will be the building of a hotel, apartments and offices at Abercorn Basin, next spring.
It is hoped the entire development will be completed by 2012, the centenary of the Titanic’s launch.
