1948 – Post Office, St. Andrew’s Street, Dublin
Architect: Sidney Maskell & John B. Fox, Office of Public Works
A relatively large building,
A relatively large building,
Originally constructed as St Andrews Church of Ireland and built on the site of an earlier church destroyed by fire.
Like similar flat complexes built by the City Council Housing Department in the 1930s,
Designed by Benson + Forsyth (architects of the Museum of Scotland) as an extension to the National Gallery of Ireland,
Named after Denzille Holles (1597-1681), Earl of Clare (in Suffolk, not Ireland).
The Leeson family owned this area but they let sites to John Hatch,
Austere but solid bank branch with subtle decorative plasterwork and symmetrical design.
A fine concrete building with its structure clearly visible,
Former cinema now a nightclub and hotel,
