The moving force behind the construction of this island church was Reverend Arthur Sweatman who later became Archbishop of Toronto,
The first plan dates from 1839 but the work on the building’s structure was conducted between 1841 and 1865,
Designed in 1885-86 to replace a building that was not yet thirty years old,
In 1913 the first Hamilton Public Library vacated their building,
Founded in 1890, on Christmas Eve 1914 fire totally destroyed the interior,
A good example of Richardsom Romanesque that was popular for civic buildings at thos time.
Short-lived and eccentric building, opened in 1891 and destroyed by fire in 1915.
