Buildings from the Irish Views Series by Gallaher
Issued between 1908 and 1910, these cigarette cards were part of the “Irish View Scenery” collection by Gallaher Ltd. The full set had 600 cards covering buildings, landscape, and streetscapes. Many of the featured photographs were taken by Robert J. Welch, the official photographer for Harland & Wolff in Belfast. Many of the other images were taken by photographers working for William Lawrence, a Dublin based photographer and studio owner. Some of the buildings featured, like Roxborough Castle are no more, while others are exactly the same and can be seen today. Gallahers were sufficently proud of their own vast buildings at York Street in Belfast to include them in the set.
