The Ansbacher Effect on Dublin Planning and Development

With such minutiae posted here about the details of buildings and churches I wonder have people missed the big picture of what was going on in the 1970’s, 80’s, and 90’s in Ireland.

As group of people advised by Des Traynor were developing property.

Traynor was running a bank from Cement Roadstone Holding’s [CRH] offices in Dublin using CRH personnel.

Many of these people were at the highest levels of Irish business and politics.

The list of names included Charles Haughey, Peter Sutherland (A Fine Gael-appointed attorney General), Desmond Fitzgerald (brother to the late Garrett FitzGerald, former of Fianna Gael) and many others.

I would be interested in learning how much of Dublin’s history was affected by the efforts of this group, many of whom made money from property.

Sutherland, we know, went on to Great Things – Money, Oil, the current World Financial Crisis.

But this is from an earlier time, and one cannot help wondering how the course of Irish development might have been changed had these people not been nailed to a tree in the early years, instead of being helped by the actions of an assistant city and county manager fostering a culture of greed and corruption in the public service.
