Why is the Royal Institute of Architects still the ‘Royal’ Institute of Architects sixty years after the declaration of the Republic of Ireland? Surely architects in Ireland are deserving of a professional body that reflects the values of the modern democracy in which we live?
The colonial jackboot that stood on the throat of the Irish for the best part of a millennium has left a lasting imprint it seems.
As for the R.N.L.I., R.C.S.I., R.C.R.I., R.U.I., R.C.A.I., R.C.M.I…

RNLI gets more money/donations from the recognisable brand of RNLI, which is why they said they’ve kept it.

RIAI it could still be with another R word or CIAI seal another deal.
One thing that might help architects if the RIAI became more unionised/social.
I.E. all fees/wages are paid through the RIAI then they would wield more power with clients ect and not have these weak fee agreements. There is no minimum wage for architects… -
Whatever about becoming more union like in general, collusion on fees would be against many laws and both national and European level.
It’s also counter-productive. If it’s allowed for architects, it also becomes allowed for any group that supplies architects, such as the providers of software etc.

Lets spend a fortune changing all our stationery and deny our history while we are at it to satisfy some nay sayer in post-nationalist Ireland.
I am now off to meet some R.I.A.I. colleagues at the R.C.Y.C. to try and get some work so we can have toilet rolls in the office toilets and some coffee in the canteen next week.

There is a minimum wage here for architects;)
I think some of the tendering processes are questionable for small practices…
Also you don’t have to be an architect here to sign things off…
Does that make Ireland anti competitive you only have to look at fixed corporate tax rates…ouch… If there is a rule it can be broken just as long as your the highest paid variable or fixed it doesn’t make a difference…
