Inactivemany be not .but i do have the brains not to go around destroying buildings with shit paint jobs.at least my grammer can be corrected by a stroke of the key board.not by the stroke of the customers cash which paid for it .so dont try and get of the subject with your smart arse replys ,[ahem] clear your throat some were else,
and by the way look it up in the dictionary,

InactiveNo, it’s ‘stream of consciousness’ irony and wasn’t intended as a sentence at all.

InactiveIs there not some unwritten rule (or maybe written somewhere) not to bog down threads with criticism of spelling & grammer ?

InactiveWell, I guess it’s an unwritten rule of the internet in general. At least, if I held the internet to the standards I expect of myself and others in professional correspondence, I’d probably never get out of bed for the burden of frustration.
Then again, I find it hard to fault anyone who fights the good fight. (Up to a point…)

do you mind if I bog it down further by correcting your spelling of “grammar”?

InactiveLOL
Painted in the TSB logo colours.
That looks so tawdry and tacky. It’s like a circus big top. (Clowns inside.)
I’d withdraw my money if I’d had an account with them there.

No, not at all. I think it keeps the debate both lively and informative. You should really start your sentence with a capital letter though. What fun we’re having.

InactiveEverybody: I don’t want to bog it down with issues of g&p either (after all, one of the strengths of English is its relatively lax ‘rules’ and its flexibility), but I couldn’t resist having a (mild) poke at lonkey after he criticised someone else’s lack of education. There are some posts where a lack of any g&p gets in the way of undersatnding and it is generally just an insult to other posters if you can’t be bothered proofreading your own post.
For the record, I hate the lurid technicolor of the paint-job, but doubt it has much to do with the banks’ having too much money; more like not enough taste. - February 3, 2009 at 8:41 pm #806001

I’d hate to think we’d heard the last from you on this subject.
Agreed on the terrible paint job, by the way.

Inactivelonkey, I completely agree that they made a mess of the bank. I also understand how annoying it can be to be picked up on small things like grammar when bigger issues are at stake, and the initial comment was perhaps unnecessary, but your confrontational and frankly aggressive stance against someone who essentially agrees with you is not helping your case. When did decent grammar become the exclusive preserve of the PhD class? It probably wouldn’t kill any of us to proof read what we write.

InactiveYou do have to admire the local bank manager . . . for resourcefulness, and for thinking outside the box . . . and all that!

Inactivelonkey: truce; let’s all stick to the architectural criticism. I can’t help my style (and I think language is there to be used) and I can think of worse solitary pursuits than contributing to these threads!

InactiveWorse?
Agreed you have to hold a certain secret admiration for the ingenuity of the individual responsible! But yes, it’s hideous – oddly the revolting purpley navy more so than the orange. A building of that quality ought to be protected, in which case there is a process under which this development can be ‘reviewed’.
If it’s any consolation, at least it looks ‘well maintained’ in typical banky fashion.
