ParticipantWould anyone know who the architect/builder/first owner of No. 7 Eccles street was? Also when was the house was built? Any other info would be gratefully received as alI I can find is that it was demolished in the 1980s and that the door and Gibbsian doorcase can be found at the James Joyce Museum. Thanks for your help.

InactiveI did a quick trawl, and while I found some photos and other odds and ends (including a 3-D computer simulation of the house, which I couldn’t open on my work computer), the info you require eluded me.
Have you asked David Norris? I suspect he could chew your ear off for a week on the subject.

InactiveHave you checked the Irish Architectural Archive?
And are you just looking to answer the questions you posed in your first post- architect, builder, owner and date?
I presume you’ve done an extensive web trawl, and are therefore familiar with the video attached, but I imagine others here won’t be, and it’s worth seeing: http://www.no7.org.uk/

InactivePeter Pearson included this photograph of Eccles Street (including no. 7) in his ‘The Heart of Dublin’ and I think diddler has already quoted the most relevent text.

There is a range of houses on the opposite side of the street that look identical, you might see if you could get access to one of them, if it’s the details of the construction and layout that you’re interested in.
