ParticipantHi Guys, I’m a fourth year AT in CIT and I’m just starting to research my dissertation on the Cradle To Cradle design philosophy of William McDonough and Michael Braungart. In almost every bio (e.g. here http://www.mcdonoughpartners.com/staff_wm.shtm) of McDonough it mentions a Solar House he built in Ireland while he was studying at Yale. “McDonough has been a leader in the sustainable development movement since its inception. He designed and built the first solar-heated house in Ireland in 1977 while still a student at Yale University..”
But nowhere can I find any more details about it! I think it’d be cool to study it and see if any of the ideas he’s promoting now existed in his work back then, so I know this is a very long shot but does anyone have an inkling of where this might be? - October 10, 2008 at 4:45 pm #804031

Yeah there’s another section that talks about research and how they cannot respond to individual requests, so I’m a bit unsure about ringing them up about something that will seem so trivial. I was going to save it for a last resort.

KeymasterLooking it up online I see three dates, 1973, 1976 and 1977 (most widely quoted).
Known as the Grant House, but otherwise no idea.

Ahhhh, Grant House, I hadn’t come across that before, could be a useful lead, thanks Paul.
