ParticipantHi there. I need to find a historic building in Dublin to carry out a measured building survey for college. Could anyone suggest where i might find a derelict building or a building in need of repair. Thanks

InactiveI think a useful answer would be to point him at any WSC streets on the North side, or damn near any old building left in the city centre that’s awaiting demolition and replacement with cardboard apartments.
Tara St has a load of them on the corner with the Quays IIRC?
Incidentally, I saw someone mention here that DCC can serve improvement orders (may not be called that) on owners of derelict buildings. Any chance this will start to actually happen?

Inactive2 sheds on the quays – Sir John Rogerson’s, owned by the DDDA. Go to their office and they will facilitate.
DCC can and do service Derelict SIte Notices frequemtly. http://www.dublincity.ie/sitetools/faq/faq_development/derelict_sites_-_action_by_dublin_city_council.asp

Inactivesk712 You could look at Kilmainham Mills on Rowserstown Lane near RHK main entrance. It is on the ‘protected structures ‘ list. It would be delapidated rather than derelict, has an incredible interior, open cage lift, machinery from various periods, you could remake Metropolis in it.
There is a three year old planning permission to redevelop the complex, so you wouldn’t want to wait too long. The owner lives on site and can be approachable.

Student, Get out of the pub and go up to the North Circular Road before it’s all gone!

InactiveThe chimney collapsed onto the building site at the side of it. The chimney used to be inbetween two houses.
there was building on all sides of the building. I’d say the builder was delighted to see it come down – so he has a chance at getting the corner site.
What ever goes in there – should bear in mind that thousand of people stream by there every summer walking to Croker.
