“Lansdowne Road is in contention to host the 2010 or 2011 UEFA Cup final, Europe’s football governing body have comfirmed.

The stadium is currently undergoing a huge renovation and is set to be completed in 2009 with a capacity of 50,000.”

someone in my vacinity recently “alleged” that the likely final capacity of lansdowne has dropped considerably during the ongoing design process. Bar talk or based on fact????

Dropped from 50K? Hadn’t heard anything to that effect.

One thing to note – the new LR will have several corporate boxes, so if you were to exclude these there probably will be fewer “normal” seated fans than in the old Lansdowne Road.

If the Irish Rugby and Football teams don’t get their act together soon, they won’t be able to fill 20 000 seats, let alone 50 000!

Seeing as the Old Landsdown Road was terraced at both ends it will have considerably more seats.

It’s probably the fact it was reduced to 50,000 from earlier proposals for more people.

I heard somewhere, haven’t a clue where, might have been a newspaper or archiseek???, that Lansdowne was going to be taller than Croker. Does anyone know if this is true.

I think it is. It does seem like a fairly confined site so i’d imagine that it would need to go high to pack in the seats.

Does anyone know what those beams over the dart line are for? Is the stadium being built over the line?

I think that a bit of the stadium might poke out over the line, I know it was closed on the bank holiday weekend so they could build parts of the stadium, so im just assuming that it sticks out over the tracks.

the stadium itself will not be over the line but some access routes will, as well as there being an underpass:
