ParticipantIn relation to planning policies and development of our country, is a Fianna Fail/ Green/ PD government welcomed by members of this forum?
Are the anti current government members less anxious now about he future development of the country having the Greens on board? - June 14, 2007 at 2:00 pm #789665

InactivePersonally I dont want the greens in government. Some of them are absolute loons. Fianna Fail/PD’s/Ind id have prefered.

InactiveThe front line members of the greens are far from loons… they are articulate visioned people and can only enhance a fairly stagnet FF government, IMHO…..
I have not yet seen the programme for government so i dont know what they suggest for ‘planning’ matters, but i would expect a tightening of Part L Compliance (well, BER Assessment will do that, maybe they will widen the scope of the BER)….
i think their influence will be micro rather than macro regarding planning….. ie encouragement of tax relief on renewables, extra tax on energy guzzlers like filament bulbs, immersion heating etc…..

InactiveDick Roche just signed the order to remove Tara from the Irish landscape.
Anyway no government with the Fianna Fail Builder Party will deliver for the Irish environment, built or natural. A sad day for the Greens, who will be slaughtered by Kenny, Bruton, Hayes, Rabbitte, Shortall, Gilmore, etc etc as every single FF fuck up rebounds on them. Noel Dempsey got Transport; the new minister for Motorways…

Entirely premature
The dumping of Roche and Cullen aka the renault 4 is encouraging!
Dempsey did deals with Michael Smith in environment M3 aside he is not bad on environment. Once M3 is the last unjustified motorway we have entered better times!
Guys like Ryan and Cuffe are fairly cute operators and I’d have little doubt on their ability to handle the populist party.
Reraise this thread in 12 months for a verdict!!

InactiveDempsey was also the Minister for the Environment when his local council rezoned the entire Meath coast in 2001 and stuck two fingers up to the SPG. But yeh I see that I’m being premature. But it’s Fianna Fail. They sup from the same bowl as the developers. I won’t hold my breath and won’t be surprised if the Greens walked by the local elections in 2009
Yes 12 month revisit, end of year report if you like!!!

Inactive, the Greens won’t convert FF They’ll be corrupted themselves in my opinion. They will take the blame for FF shenanigans and will end up in the Dail embarassingly defending stuff they would have denounced a month ago, FG and Labour will tear into them with relish. FF will put all the ‘reviews’ on the long finger and pawn them off and in the next election they will be hammered.
As a character in a movie once said “If you dance with the devil, the devil don’t change. The devil changes you.”
