I am restoring my sash windows (circa 1895). How do I research the most authentic ironmongery to use? I would like to use my original latches (or replicas) but have been advised the the screw-type ones are better from a security and draught proofing point of view. What type of sash lift is appropriate and should I reinstate the original external sash rings? Finally, although practical would rings on the top sashes look very out of place?
