ParticipantHello,
Was wondering if anyone had and links to images of the old cranes that used to run along the campshires, down at the dublin docklands, way back in the day? MIght be able to help me with my final year design project.
Cheers

InactiveMust it be the Dublin campshires?
I might (stress- might) have pics of the Waterford campshires on the south bank of the Suir that’d suit your purposes. They retained much evidence of their maritime industrial heritage until the late 1990s and still retain vestiges. And the north quays of the Suir still operate as docks of a sort. However, their days may well be numbered if yesterday’s Irish Times is to be believed, though there have been schemes for the north quays over the last few years and none has materialised yet.

InactiveI’ll have a look over the next day or two.
But bear in mind, I can’t promise anything. I took pics in my old job in 1998 or so, but I don’t remember if I took pics for personal use as well as pics for the job, the latter of which would have remained in the job after I left.

KeymasterI still remember how cool i though the cranes were when i was a kid. Raleigh Ireland used to be on Hanover Quay, and my dad would go to dublin a couple of thursday a month, and in the summer i’d tage along for the ride. There was still a lot of the cranes there, even though they were no longer used. I loved the decay of the area – even Raleigh was a small shadow of its past – they had a major fire in the early 70s and the manufacturing element had ceased.

Inactivec.d.,
Haven’t had any luck yet with those pics, I’m afraid. There’s still a corner or two at home that I haven’t rummaged through, but I’d be surprised to find them at this stage. I will keep looking, but I wanted to pass this on in case you were hanging.
