      What is the best way to uncover information regarding an old RIC barracks (1830) and the history of it. The barracks was located in Balbriggan.

      There’s a Garda Museum in Dublin Castle I think. They might be able to help. Or a local historian in Balbriggan. The tourist office/librarian there might be able to point you in the direction.

      How about the City Archive in Pearse Street Library, although this is a bit of a long shot.

      Most of Balbriggan did not survive the 1920-2 period which is a real pity as from the pictures I’ve seen it looked like a very pleasant place;

      you may get further info at Skerries Mill heritage centre

      Does the building still exist? This is a list of structures in Balbriggan as compiled by the NIAH:
      http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?county=FI&datefrom=0&dateto=2000&classification=Choose+a+Type+…&name=&checkbox4=true&town=Balbriggan&townland=&type=advanced&page=1

      There is also a military archive based, I think, in the barracks in Rathmines- there’s a chance it’d have some info. It was overseen by Commdt Peter Young before his untimely death in the late 1990s, and even though it was very much his personal passion I presume it’s still going. Not sure how accessible it is to the public, but they might be able to look up something for you.

      There’s a gentleman who works in Balbriggan library who is a font of knowledge re: local history. His name escapes me at the mo but you will definitely find out what you need there.
