Inactive“The building sparked a furious and unprecedented debate about architecture in the letters columns of Fermanagh’s oldest newspaper, the Impartial Reporter, with critics declaring themselves “appalled” by what they saw as a “monstrosity”. “
I for one agree with the “Impartial Critics” this building is a complete monstrosity. The worst of modern architecture :
gratuitous, gestural form in cheap coloured render and reconstituted stone facing.Paul I request that the image of this building is taken off the hompage as it is embarrassing to think that the international audience this site gets will think we consider this an exemplary piece of modern Irish architecture.
Surely there is a more interesting building in Enniskillen?

InactiveWhen I saw the pic, I thought it was mildly interesting, but I also thought it was from the mid-60s or so. Couldn’t believe how recent it was.

InactiveI remember the furore about this when it was built a few years ago. Though I think the locals were mainly upset at the huge size of it rather than the architectural quality.
Many Irish towns seem to have a building like this now – a “landmark by numbers” building; a few sweepy curvy bits, an angular wall and a big glass section – and, hey, the town is suddenly all happening again!
