ParticipantHello, We have recently moved into a 30ish year old house in Dublin. We are looking for an Architect to do up some plans to modify the house. We are looking for advise on how to engage an Architect. Eg. how do we assess their qualifications, how much would one cost, How does the process work etc…. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Participantthe RIAI is a good starting point. guarantees some level of qualification. a lot of people seem to find architects by word of mouth, references from people they know, and pot luck.

ParticipantAlot of the AAI (architectural Association of Ireland) awards in the more recent years have been for smaller scale house extensions. have a look at them anyway ,they are published every year in a book available from the riai bookshop as well as alot of other bookshops. You can that way see the work of the better smaller practices who do this kind of work and possibly choose one of them based on the previous work you have seen of theirs.
