Frank Mc Donald has over the years put his neck on the chopping block and has been supported by the Irish Times especially where there is real evidence.

Tom de Paor wasn’t affraid to do dismiss past masters and contempories in a recent article -feelin certain well known irish firms have lost their way as “critical regionalists” and sold out to become modernists.

Is it not the first step to becoming the new Avant Garde to shake off the shakkels of the past ?!!!!

On another note what did people make of Hugh Pearmann’s article on Wright in the Sunday Times last? Slightly Tabloidish I thought. But that what the people want? I had a friend who isn’t an architect and confesses to knowing wery little about the subject make the comment that “See this guy who was supposed to have been the greatest architect of the last hundred years that all his buildings are faling down and will all have fallen down within 50 years! guess he wqasn’t that great then!”

Have to add that in general I find hugh permenn an entertaining, informative read and can only appplaud all inc hugh that are doing their bit in trying to educate the masses about contempoary architecture.

Pandos, I’d be inclined to give the Irish Times a skip. They’re not very adventurous, and don’t do many investigations. The Examiner is a better bet, they have a lot of young hungry journalists. Or else The Sunday Times, where there’s a lot of architectural coverage from the likes of Shane O’Toole, Hugh Pearman etc.

Sue, I’ve often wondered if you are Sue Denham of The Sunday Times? Just you’ve said before you use a pseudonym – just as the ST opinion writer does.

Pandos, what about trying to contact ‘The Village’ (Vincent Browne Publication). They do features on architecture in nearly every edition.
