There’s a very attractive new building, just unveiled at Strand Street, directly beside the back of the Morrison Hotel. Have yet to see it featured in any of the papers – could be an extension to the Morrison, or may be an apartment development. Ground floor looks likely to be retail units. It has a wonderful timber overhang feature on the top floor. Hopefully one of our people with a camera can take a snap.

It is an extension to the Morrison and the riverside facade has also just been uncovered. I think it looks great. Starnd St is really coming together seeing as it was a glorified alleyway upt o 15 year ago. It is in desperate need of proper paving and tarmac though. A unified lighting scheme for this area would also be very welcome.

Great Strand Street has dissapointed me for a long time as when it is compared with the North Lotts it still has the feel of 1980’s inner City. I welcome this well executed development as progress along with the Quartier Bloom development and DCC’s renovation of what is now GUBU bar.

However the development directly behind Quartier Bloom is poor and there is still a jumble of poor buildings in worse condition at the Liffey St end, and the vacant site next to this is set to become a bus station, so it would appear that this once alleyway is set to become a major busway, although I cannot see how high quality access will be provided.
