Is it only me, or is anyone concerned at how public space is being enclosed by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council ? Every new road or open space in the county is flanked by an inevitable three to four metre high walls, even where it seems logical that open space should open on to the roads. There appears to be no concept of how the public realm should be formed or enclosed, and the concept of passive surveillance to counteract anti social behaviour does not appear to be understood. It appears as if the planners wish that that the public image for their county should be of roads and open spaces contained by high walls, no doubt to be enlivened only by grafitti. What shares do Councillors hold in walling material suppliers or contractors, and why did a railing manufacturer fail to be elected ? Does anyone have a comment ?
The 2004 dlr county developement plan says:
