ParticipantSeeing as there has been so much interest generated by the new Carlisle pier competition,
I would be interested to know what anyone else out there thought about the largest struture in the town, namely the massive shopping centre. It dates from the mid-seventies I guess, and was constructed with good quality material, inside and out.
The view from the pub on the top-floor is one of blue sea and sky, with Howth and Sandycove thrown in.
The whole structure looks impessive and massive from certain vantage ponits in the town. It seems to have dated well internally and externally.
Anyone know who designed it ?

It is mingin, right from the second you step in the low dark entrance on Marine Rd you know the extent of 1970’s ambition in commercial development.
The interior does not give anywhere near enough space to circulate comfortably, unlike say the Jervis or Blanch centres.
The exterior is ghastly and it destroys a visitors first impression on embarkation at the harbour.

I had pints there about 10 years ago, the interior was muck but the views were excellent. A bit like most development in Ireland pre 1991,
A bit like its principal tenent it is yellow pack
