      Maybe the following might be of interest to some people:

      Forum for Irish Urban Studies (FIUS) seminar:
      “Dublin as a global city: regenerating and marketing the Capital”

      Museum Building, Trinity College on Wednesday 21st January at 5.30pm.

      Two 20-minute papers will be presented at the seminar. The first speaker is
      Mr. John Fitzgerald (Chairperson of the Dublin Development Board and Dublin
      City Manager) and the second speaker is Dr. Andrew MacLaran (Co-Director of
      the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies, TCD and Senior Lecturer in the
      Dept. of Geography, TCD).

      To discuss and debate the topic further, a ‘questions and answers’ programme
      will follow the presentations. This will provide an opportunity for
      considerable interaction between the speakers and the audience – a central aim
      of the forum. Thereafter, we shall adjourn to the Longstone Pub on Townsend
      St. to continue further discussion.

      If you have any questions that you would like to put to either/both speaker/s,
      could you please forward them by email or post to Sinead Kelly and/or Enda
      Murphy by 5pm Monday 19th January.

      Interesting – Just read this, but at 18.10 on the21st however.

      PS Is there any cities that are not global cities, i.e. cities we know of that are off this globe?

      last i heard they haven’t found intelligent life ( or any other sort of life) of this globe yet!

      It was an interesting discussion. Two completely divergent views on the city.

      I was dying with the flu, I made it to Trinity all right, but 10 yards from the Museum Building de-toured to the Buttery and just stayed there for an hour trying to nurse the worst head-cold I have had in yonks. Hope it clears up for Sat though – going to see the Lib?

      Phil I am sorry I missed this one,

      I think people in Dublin forget just how well the country has done from the Globalisation process. How much of the dereliction dissapeared as a result of the ‘New Money’ that flooded around for those five years.

      It is coming back according to Dan McLaughlin chief economist at BOI group next year he predicts 6% growth.

      What conclusions did they come to on infrastructure in particular public transport?
