ParticipantIs America right to discriminate against Ireland (and others) in awarding reconstruction contracts in Iraq?
What would these contracts mean for Irish construction?

InactiveHas he put Ireland on the List?
The WTO will cut him down to size like they did with the steel tariffs.
He is grandstanding into an election year

ParticipantCRH are probably the only ones who could scale up to the bigger contracts and benefit from such a deal, and they could probably get in via their US holding.
They are the No.1 national producer of asphalt in the US. Begads.

You would be surprised, some of QS project managers here are pretty hot
I saw a picture of an irrigation project done in Saudi by an Irish firm in the early 1980’s
But this for Bush is pure soundbite, he is not going to alienate 40m Irish-Americans

InactiveI read stuff about Bush excluding Russia, France and Germany in the FT last week.
It mentioned three countries alone.
He is right to ban these three countires for the following reasons
Russian Companies were running his oil industry and illegally exporting oil via Syria in contravention of UN sanctions
The German government under Kohl grant aided the chemical weapons factory which produced the gas that killed the Kurds
The french under Chirac (Mayor of paris) sold Sadam the makings of a nuclear weapons plant in the mid 1970’s
All of this was on a TG4 report recently.
I do not accept that he had any WMD in 2003 I think they were got after the gulf war.
But for the murder of the kurds he had to go

InactiveBoA says €4bn Parmalat account does not exist
Parmalat said Bank of America had rejected the validity of a document stating that Bonlat, the Italian dairy group’s Cayman-based subsidiary, held €3.95bn in cash and securitiesOf equal relevance there is no such thing as an Irish Company with the capacity to tender for Iraq work not having the subsidiaries in the UK and US

ParticipantYes, Ireland have been included on that list. Do you think that’s fair considering, as a neutral country, we permitted the use of Shannon airport. Should that not be considered some form of commitment? Or should commitment be considered at all? Best price/job could be more important?

ParticipantThe list is supposedly there to pacify the British who dedicated so much to the war effort and then got COMPLETELY excluded from the 1st round of contracts (i.e. they all went to D Cheny and his buddies in Haliburton etc). So in other words – the Brits want a complication free round of “tenders”. i.e. no other meddling EU members.
Laughably the most was Berite’s reaction to the news that Ireland was on the list… “of course we were – sure wasn’t I against the war all along?”
