it looks like the south side of the green is going two way, i can’t quite work out how this will work, maybe you’ll have to go straight ahead coming out of cuffe street instead of turning, but then what? anyway, it looks like they are in the middle of building a long pedestrian island in the middle, pity in some ways, it’ll diminish the street and these things are just an excuse for not having enough green man time to get all the way across.

is it two way? i had assumed that the “new” side of the street would be luas only.

I think the south side of the Green will go two-way. That will enable motorists to turn right at the end of Harcourt Street – which would make a lot of sense. Right now to get from Harcourt Street to Earlsfort Terrace you have to go all the way around the green – that’s a lot of needless traffic and congestion.

The council is also supposed to be looking at the Bleeding Horse corner, another amazing anomaly. To get from the front door of the pub to the back, you have to drive all the way around a 0.5 mile block

I’m looking out my window at it at the moment – surely two way traffic will be nuts along there?

An island will destroy what fragments there are left that unify the Green into some semblance of a square, this space should be used to widen the Iveagh House-side pavement which is far to narrow – and is appallingly paved in a crazy paving of concrete slabs and remenants of the original granite and coalholes.

Just saw this this morning – oh what a mess, what a mess.

The OPW spend how many tens of thousands and how many months repaving, furnishing and cleaning up the Green walks – and then the CC’s road department come along slap a cumbersome island in the middle of the carriageway and adorn it with the crappiest of crap – unfinished lamposts and railings – their steel exposed for the world to see, and the island splicing the thoroughfare in two.

      I despair, I really do.

Commuters on Dublin’s southside may have wondered about yet more roadworks on St Stephen’s Green, causing additional gridlock in the past two weeks.

This time the cause is the construction of a Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) on St Stephen’s Green South in the lane nearest the Green. Work began two weeks ago and is due to finish ahead of schedule at the end of this week.

At St Stephen’s Green South, on the side of the Department of Foreign Affairs and University Church, there are four traffic lanes. When the QBC is completed, there will be three lanes for traffic and one lane nearest the green for buses and taxis.

Looking at it this morning they have split the road two lanes for Cuffe Street and 2 lanes to continue around the green. Seems to work…

I see that the Cuffe Street lane closure took less than 3 of the scheduled 4 weeks, credit where credit is due – well done Luas constructors

We were just talking about the acceleration in the Luas work on Harcourt St and Stephens Green. The luminous jacketed workers are like ants there at the moment. Maybe should have happened a bit sooner. At least we seem to be at the beginning of the end rather than the end of the beginning!!

so no two way traffic then ? just an island filtering traffic on to cuffe street and around the green, no big deal really ?

yeah, so as it turns out it is qbc with a bus stop in the middle of the road according to today’s times. i don’t get it really. still a pity to break up the road like this.
