I also managed to get a look at Pat Liddys collection of drawings and maps in the rotunda of City Hall. Its well worth a visit. The ‘wish list’ map of 2050 was particularly interesting.

did he do the series of books called “yada yada” dublin. “walking” and “flying” and “carousing” and also “eeking ones way through” are great titles.

Badly drawn with poor sense of perspective.
I saw that exhibition and he was placing his pictures under those of Malton… bad move, it just makes Malton’s look even better…
His attempts at drawing modern buildings show his lack of draughtmanship – no fussy detail to hide the fact that the perspective is wrong…..

      artisically its twee non-challenging art

Ironically, his drawing of City Hall is one of his best!

It’s so under-rated in the city – only because it’s so close to the road that no one appreciates it to the extent of set pieces like the Custom House etc.
The carving of the side facade facing the Newcomen Bank is especially fine.
On ‘Restoration’ last week there was a massive shell of a country house featured that had a side facade that was almost identical to that of City Hall.

What happened to all of the Victoriana that was removed in the restoration – the CC said it would find a new home for it – which includes joinery, and loads of high quality stone doorcases and pediments etc

I liked his book ‘Celebrating Dublin’, whatever about the quality of the art work I thought it was a great amalgamation of everything thats been happening in Dublin over the past 10 years and also whats planned in the future.
(The interesting thing about the Malton comparisons was how little his chosen views had actually changed!!)

There is an amazing amount of information in that book – well assembled as you say emf.

The timeframes for O’ Connell St and the Spire are hilarious now.
