ParticipantHi all,
I am working on the TV series “About The House”. This year we are featuring a dedicated heritage strand and we are looking to feature a conservation project. The type of project that we are ideally looking for is the refurbishment/renovation of a smallish vernacular building anywhere in Ireland. We would follow the project from the beginning through to completion. The clients would have to be available for filming as would the architect.
I would be very grateful if you could get back in touch with me as soon as possible. The office phone is 01 – 661 7475.
Kind Regards
Suzanne Kelly

ParticipantNow that I have the chance, (sorry this is’nt in relation to your query) but the way on About the House that you always abrubtly cut off each item is really bad.
I’m sitting watching a section of the prog and suddenly you cut it off with Duncan saying “We’ll return to the O’ Reilly’s next week”. You need to give more of a lead up to the closing of each section, which is really a basic rule of television.Otherwise, the progs impressive, and I like the way Duncan utilises it to promote his own causes & architectural causes under the guise of home improvments etc, which otherwise RTE wouldn’t touch with a bargepole.

ParticipantHi Suzanne
We are in the process of planning the renovation of our little labourers cottage in Slane and extending it with a sqaure shaped connection bit with a pyramid roof and a rather traditional straight forward new building.
I do not know if this meets your requirement but just wanted to try.
Cheers

ParticipantHi Hannah,
The project sounds great. When is it commencing, when is it due for completion, are you receiving any grants from The Heritage Council to carry out works??
Do you have any pictures? So many questions.
We are under a bit of pressure to choose our third heritage project so I’d be very grateful if you could get back in touch as soon as possible. The office no is 01 661 7475. You can speak with Suzanne/Ingrid or Deirdre.
Thanks once again
Suzanne

ParticipantOff the wall question but are there planning restrictions if you want to renovate?
We have this little dwelling lived in 68 years ago and we are seriously considering renovating…

ParticipantFirst question- is it a Protected Structure?
Don’t laugh- corrugated iron roof, possible lime render, stone corners, simple classical proportions. I have my doubts, but you never know. Also, it could be within the curtilage of a PS- photo too close to determine. If it’s a PS there are restrictions. Maybe ask the local authority for a Section 57 Declaration? (explained on this thread: https://archiseek.com/content/showthread.php?t=1900&page=2)For a non-PS, you can extend up to 40 sq.m. to the rear without PP, and many categories of works are exempted development- check the P&D Regulations 2001.
If in doubt, you can request a Section 5 Declaration from the local authority which tells you whether works are or are not development and whether they require PP. At 4 weeks, its time limit is faster than the 12 weeks for a S.57 Declaration.

ParticipantI don’t think it is protected but can check. I doubt it as you say tin roof and all!
I am going to get all of that documentation asap.
Thanks a mill for all this great info

ParticipantOh no- the ‘tin’ roof is a vernacular feature and, as such, could merit protection as an example of a feature of ‘special social interest’. Unlikely in this case, and in truth it’s usually only buildings made entirely of corrugated iron that would merit inclusion in the RPS.
Keep us posted on the progress. Ta.
