ParticipantThere are proposed plans, again, for a huge expansion of Stillorgan shopping centre.
It was the first shopping centre in Ireland.Stillorgan is only really a village and these plans apart from being ugly and monotonous will engulf this old village, much of which has fallen prey to shoddy developments already.
The plans have been turned down 3 times before.
There is a huge shopping development being undertaken in Dundrum,10 mins away,Blackrock has 2 centres: frascati-with Superquinn and Roches Stores nearby. Cornelscourt just beyond Foxrock has a huge Dunnes Stores. Dun Laoire, not far away eithier has expansive shopping amenities. Why do we need more shopping centres? when the traffic on the adjoining Kilmacud rd. is already conjested + I often walk by cars at a standstill coming off the Old Dublin road, also alongside the Stillorgan shopping centre, because there are two schools at one end of it.
My objections are clear, there is no need for it. The nice thing about the current design, is it’s open-air layout. It is not boxed in and all of the shops, except the hand-full above one section open into the outside.
Perhaps an upgrade of sorts could be undertaken, an enhancement of it’s existing strengths: airy layout and unobtrusive design on the surroundings. I don’t want to live somewhere defined by the size of it’s tesco’s.Hopefully An Bord Planeala will see the light and reject. The informationin the anemic pamphlet is mis-leading and contradictory, it does not make sense.
Thanks if you read through this whole thing, I’m off not to shop.
