ParticipantI am looking for information / opinions / reviews for several cad programs, specifically Vectorworks and Nemechek. My office is switching from Microstation and would like a powerful program that preferably can use reference files in a similar way to Microstation and most importantly is Mac compatable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ParticipantI would advise you to go back and have a serious look at microstation, there is no other programme in it’s field that can touch it, apart from Autocad, buteven Auto’ it is not yet up to date with all the features of the new version 8.
No it is not compat’ but the fact that they haven’t invested in rewriting the programme for a mac is for good reason.
Mac have their place , but for real realabilty and strength of over all programme Microstation is the one.
We have been through Powercad, vectorworks, and few others.
If it is the money, there are light versions you can get of most programmes.regards

ParticipantArchiCAD 7.0 for the macintosh really is the only option for power users on the Mac. I have yet to find a program as versatile, easy to use and cross platform compatible as ArchiCAD. (seamlessly handles .dwg/.dwf/.dxf/microstation, wavefront and zoom compatible. Saves in these formats as well as 3d studio, lightscape, VRML and wavefront compatible files) Its teamwork and document management systems are invaluable and if you disciple your drawing techniques you can construct true 3D buildings that allow all of the project information to be contained within one file that is parametrically linked and updated (when used correctly can save huge amounts of time drawing seperate plan/section/elevation and cut-aways for each construction phase) Its visualization tools are very easy to use and when combined with a dedicated rendering package produces stunning images on a very short timescale. http://www.graphisoft.com/products/architecture_and_design/graphisoft_archicad/
