ParticipantMy first visit to Ireland landed me at, amongst other places, the new Guinness Storehouse. I was very taken by the witty and respectful multi-media presentation of Dublin’s cultural icon that is Guinness. As an American architect and builder (and lover of fine beers) I found the exhibits to be refreshing and thoughtfull. The design worked for me on varying degrees of sophistication. I could literally feel the different areas of my brain reacting to the presentation; memory and technical knowledge, thirst, social interaction and introversion, mass appeal, history and anticipation. Not only did I leave the Storehouse with a greater understanding of the beer that I love and all that it has meant to a city culture, but I also left with a deeper appreciation for rennovation work in general, exhibiting, multi-sense appeal, good construction detailing, social gathering, and vantage point. Maybe I’m just a fan of building designs that can accomplish acute observation in a casual surrounding (like some churches). I do believe that the museum building type has a duty to grab you, take you by the ear, challenge you to understand, enlighten, then possess you to tell your friends.
Who are the architects?
And, how can I find out more about the design of the Guinness Storehouse.
Also, I am curious about how Dublin has reacted to the design of the Storehouse.
