ParticipantThe sight of O’Connell Bridge House behind scaffolding being revamped etc. made me very happy indeed.
But now that the scaffolding is being taken down, I must say I’m very dissapointed – It looks EXACTLY THE SAME, still the same old eyesore that it always has been!

InactiveI agree, it is very disappointing, especially for such a visible building. The dark glass with white frames add nothing.Perhaps a more reflective type of mirrored glass would have been more appropriate to give this drab building a lift.I wonder if they had done several tests to try out different coatings ie textures, colours, etc….

InactiveYea, it strikes you as looking the same, but I if you look at it from capel st. bridge, there’s a photo poster on some hoarding there and you can see there is a fair bit of a difference. It’s a bit strange where the high rise going up on Georges Quay decided to change from black glass to clear for appearances sake and O’Connell bridge house went the opposite way for the same reason I presume. It’s obvious the people called architects who are working for these developers don’t have a clue, or maybe they don’t use architests.
Glass such as is on the IFSC or some thing different like any other colour or even clean reflective glass without the frames would have been better than what they’ve done. - July 19, 2000 at 11:35 am #714580

InactiveGood point,as bad as the Georges Quay design scheme is and all that, they should have gone however with the original plan of dark glass. It would be consistant with the first phase of the plan. The final overall result may look too piecemeal in appearance. On the other hand O’Connell Bridge House should have a more lighter reflective glass;the black is too looming, too imposing,
like Stevenson’s EBS building in Westmoreland Street.
We have assembled now an awful mess of modern buildings looking in this direction from the Ha’penny Bridge totally lacking any style or format.
Who are these architects….Gis a job,I could do better. - July 19, 2000 at 1:21 pm #714581

ParticipantThe new glazing patterns actually make the building look taller in my opinion

ParticipantThe fact tat hte building is there at all is a pity – not because the building is in itself bad, but because its so totally out of place there that it ruins the view in all directions.
Whoever gave that permission originally if still alive should be shot!
