I was passing the Westin Hotel site last Thursday evening. The scaffolding was down from the first part of the infil between the two formwer bank buildings.
I’m disappointed. Its bland and uninteresting.
I saw it yesterday…its hopelessly mundane!
It’s terrible. You cannot even get annoyed about it because its so bland and uninteresting.
I’ll guess that the interiors will be International Hotelism at its most interesting.
Maybe if Lancefort had’nt objected we would possibly have now a more imposing structure. The lilly livered architects were too frightened or else that’s the zenith of their abilities.

After hearing the responses on this forum I was dreading seeing this building, but I have to say I think some of the criticism has been a bit excessive. I quite like the pale stone cladding and from what I saw there seemed to be a lot of gaps in the facade which remain to be covered, perhaps with some decorative features, which might reduce its “clunkiness”.
Well lets be honest, the facade that the new piece replaces was boring and bland as well. Its not the best, but its not the worst either.
