I saw an article in The Sunday Times, that Andrew Devane had died last month. I hadnt read that anywhere else. It was a great pity he gave up architecture, as he work was excellent. The Emmet Road School in Inchicore was singled out and it is a fine if neglected building. It also mentioned the Meath Hospital, was he responsible? I know Robinson Keefe Devane were the practice involved.
That is sad news. I think that if you see how hard it can be today to do modern innovative buildings think what it must have been back in his time. Maybe it would be useful to post some images of his work on the site so that people can see his buildings again. His own house Journey’s End in Howth has been subject of some discussion and his houses on the Malahide Road also spring immediately to mind. Some of his larger buildings should also be featured.
