ParticipantPersonally I thought that it was rather poor, any show on architecture which wheels out Charles J Haughey to justify a case is morally and intellectually bankrupt of ideas. If Haughey is on an architecture programme, it should be to justify why all his friends have been steadily destroying Dublin and other Irish cities since the 1960s.

ParticipantI must say I found the rolling titles and the music very distracting, there seemed to be a lack of picture sources, and even buildings that are still there just flitted by – Dublin Airport for example.
What was with the concert in Ardnacrusha? And how come no serious foreign commentators ever mentioned Scotts Irish building at the Worlds Fair.

ParticipantThe NY World Fair pavilion is relatively unknown – because of the short term of its life and the fact that at the time, with war about to break out in Europe, architecture didnt seem all that important.
It did win the Medal for best building at the Fair.

ParticipantI missed this program, but I’m guessnig that the concert in Ardnacrusha was the opening performance of the Shannon Suite (Cóisir an tSionnan)? There is some information about it here: http://www.softday.ie/concept.html

ParticipantYikes – Nation Building was screened three and a half years ago now?!
Seems like yesterday.Good point about Haughey – his connections with John Byrne of O’ Cll Bridge House fame are well known – as just one of oh too many examples.
