1860 – Mairie du 1er Arrondissement, Paris
Architect: Jacques Hittorff
Paris is divided into 20 arrondissement, each with their own elected council and mayor, and a local townhall or Mairie. The local mairies manage daily administrative matters and community life for residents in their specific areas. The Town Hall Paris’s 1st Arrondissement is located on Place du Louvre, next to the St-Germain l’Auxerrois Church and was designed by Jacques Hittorff, in a mix of architectural styles including neo-Renaissance and Flamboyant Gothic, with notable elements including a Gothic belfry. Design as published in The Builder, November 14 1863.
