2008 – East Wall Community Centre, Dublin

The Sean O’Casey centre, which has been in operation for 23 years, has been rebuilt and extended as part of a €9 million plan part-funded by the Docklands Authority and the Government. The new centre, designed by architects O’Donnell + Tuomey, will offer a range of facilities for the entire community, particularly senior citizens and pre-schoolers, including a theatre, gym, pre- school facility, games room, pottery room, gardens and café. Services for pre-school children and senior citizens will operate from alternative locations in the area while the new centre is being built.

Gerry Kelly, Director of Social Regeneration for the Docklands Authority, believed the new centre would be a huge asset for residents of East Wall and the entire Docklands area. “The Docklands Authority’s social regeneration programme focuses on improving the personal development, education and employment potential among local people and we see resources such as the Sean O’Casey Community Centre as central to community life. The new centre will offer an enhanced range of facilities to all our residents and we look forward to its completion.”
