1959 – Norquay Building, Winnipeg, Manitoba
Architect: Green, Blankstein, Russell Associates
An elegant piece of late 50’s modernism by David Thordarson of Green, Blankstein, Russell Associates, the Norquay building has an understated architectural quality. The composition, scale, materials all contribute to a quality design that can easily be dismissed as “just a box”. To dismiss the building in this way is to do it a dis-service. Good architecture from this period has a timeless quality and this building has it in spades. In addition to office accommodation, the Norquay Building also housed an auditorium used for public lectures.
