The combined clock tower and fountain, standing in the centre of Rother market, was presented to the town in 1887, by George W. Childs, of Philadelphia to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. Known as the Shakespeare Memorial Fountain but also referred to as The American Fountain.
