2007 – Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Quay, Dublin
Architect: Martha Schwartz
Initially gimmicky but ultimately successful attempt to design a new city square in the south docklands. The imaginative use of colour, contrasts with the water in the dock, and the frequently grey Irish skies. Creating a projection into the dock does create drama, however the feeling persists that the design is intended to be viewed from the air. Underwhelming at opening, with the completion of construction in the area it is now thriving and busy with pedestrians during the day
