ARCHIVES OF MANITOBAWarehouse, 104-108 Princess Street, not long after its construction, ca.1885

Originally three storeys in height and later extended laterally along Princess Street and then upwards, this was a speculative venture by the Confederation Life Association. A disastrous 1947 fire caused the death of two firemen and injury of others and resulted in one half of the building being demolished, the northern end. This was later replaced with an uninspiring building of 1950. After an application to demolish the entire building was rejected, a residential conversion and wraparound extension by 5468796 Architecture was completed by 2019. The building is now known as Warehouse 1885.
